How do ants clean themselves

1999.09.22 How do ants clean themselves?

Ants move their legs through their mandibles and get saliva on them and rub them on their body. --Angelo Scott

Ants also lick and clean each other. It is unclear to me whether they put 'saliva' on their legs and then wipe it on the body or whether they simply use their legs to wipe the body and then clean them in their mandibles. I think in either case some 'saliva' makes its way to their bodies. --Mr. Ant
